A Bicycle Tour of

Ireland

From July 18-23 1999, I attended the eleventh International Congress on Radiation Research which was held at University College Dublin, Ireland.  Although the UCD campus is a short distance outside of the city, my colleagues and I took full advantage of the opportunity to explore Dublin in our free time, and after the congress ended I took further advantage by renting a bicycle to explore more of the country.

Below is a map of Ireland with my route highlighted.  From Dublin I took a train to Galway and then a bus (stopping overnight in Doolin to see the Cliffs of Moher) to Killarney where I rented a bicycle.  The original intent was to make it all of the way back to Dublin under my own power but by the time I reached Kilkenny I decided that it was best to finish the last bit by train in order to avoid the possibility of missing the flight home.

The following pages provide a brief pictoral recounting of the journey.
  1. Dublin to Doolin and the cliffs of Moher
  2. Killarney
  3. The Beara peninsula to Timoleague
  4. Kinsale to Kilkenny
